Cryptosteel and Trezor – Solid Partners

The original Cryptosteel device was a crowdfunding success back in 2015. Before we got to that point, a lot of research went into figuring out how to make the best product possible.

From the beginning

We were creating the market for metal backup devices which meant that we had a lot of questions to answer to ensure that it was worth doing.

The team at Trezor was among the very first to help make that happen. Trezor is the world’s first and most secure cryptocurrency hardware wallet. Their wallet allows you to make secure payments and manage several types of cryptocurrencies without exposing any of your private information to a potentially compromised computer.

Trezor immediately saw that what we were proposing could be a huge advantage for their customers if done correctly. This is a company that understands cryptocurrency, security, and privacy. So, from the beginning, they provided us with resources, feedback, and testing. They asked difficult questions and pushed us hard to defend our concepts. They gave us valuable professional use cases to help fine-tune our approach and to make the user experience better. It has been a real partnership from day one.

The next step

During the very early stages of our new product design, we contacted SatoshiLabs (Trezor creators) once more and revealed the first working prototype. They gave us the space – and the privacy – to work on our solution. With SatoshiLabs, we found the perfect environment to develop it. There were discussions and trials. They would send us tasks to complete and standards to meet. We would create, build, and test – again and again.

Even though the Capsule is capable of securing almost any key-generation algorithm, we choose to promote the most error-proof standards, such as BIP39, which was developed by SatoshiLabs. The Capsule was also designed with Shamir Backup in mind. It really has been a synergistic partnership.
